Phethile Zitha
Clinical Psychologist
Phethile is a Clinical Psychologist who completed her training at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her interest on matters of race, racism and power began during her high schooling- both her honors and Master papers were on Race and Institutional culture in former Model C schools. Her experience includes working in a Public hospital and local community clinics in Soweto. Her clinical work experience includes working with adults (individual therapy), children (play therapy) & adolescents, couples, parent-infant work as well as families from different cultural groups. Furthermore, she has experience in facilitating various groups; these include support groups, psychotherapy groups, psycho-educational groups as well as facilitating training workshops.
Previous Projects/Experience
Previous experience includes the following:
- Co-founder of Mindful Minds, an Employee Wellness service provider.
- Serves as a board member for a Soweto based NGO House of Hope.
- Was part of the Thinking Space Team, an initiative that facilitates a thinking space for learners and teachers to understand discrimination and prejudice in relation to themselves and the learning environment.
- Initiated and ran women and youth wellness programs- organised and co-facilitated wellness days, with the focus on mental health, for women and youth in Johannesburg.
- Co-founder of an initiative, Youth of the South, that brings together young people from high schools in Soweto, to have dialogues on matters of our racialized, violent history and its impact and manifestation in the present with the aim of envisioning a different future
